Something has been bothering me. All over the place, I see women wearing their wedding rings differently than I do. For one thing, I have seen a few people wearing theirs on the their right hands. I don't know where they got that idea, but I think some cultures do it that way. So what's really been confusing me is all the women I see wearing their engagement ring first and then putting on the wedding band. I always thought you put the wedding band on first and then the wedding ring. My sister even does it backwards! I keep telling her she is doing it wrong and then when I see her again, do you think she has changed it? No! So I Yahooed it (yes I just said Yahooed. I use Yahoo email and I like their search engine too!) and it turns out I'M RIGHT! Ok, well, all sources say you can do whatever you want, but it's most common to put on the wedding band first and then the engagement ring. That way, if you go to exercise or garden or some other activity where the ring may be damaged, you just take off the engagement ring and all that's left is the band. Makes sense to me. So how do y'all do it?

I do it the same way that you do. I was told it was so your wedding ring can be closer to your heart!
I am wearing my wedding band on my left hand. But I do not wear the engagement ring. I love the ring but I am just not fond of the diamond setting. It just gets in the way. So that is why I didn't shop for a wedding band to match it, either. I knew once I had my wedding ring, that would be all I'd wear.

I used to do it the way you do. I felt like my wedding band, being smaller than my engagement ring, would slide off if I did it the other way. But I've gotten a different ring now and I didn't get the wedding band to match it, so now I just wear a new engagement ring. So, to some people, I probably appear to just be engaged. Maybe I need to get my husband to get me the matching band!!
I'm on the same page you are....band goes on first, then the engagement ring. However, I've never actually worn mine that way. Double bands were kind of popular when I got married, so I had a plain gold band, my solitaire engagement ring, and then another gold band. Then one year for our anniversary, I got a ring jacket/guard that my solitaire fits in with diamond bands on top and bottom. So it hasn't been an issue for me, but I've always thought it would be the way you described!

You're totally right Lauren. Wedding band FIRST then engagement ring. And I don't know what's up with the wedding set on the right hand...preposterous!! That's why decorative rings are called "right hand rings"!!

I completely agree with you. I've always heard that you wear the wedding ring "Closest to your heart", then your engagement ring. But I am an OCD goober and have 2 wedding bands- one of each side of the engagement ring (for symmetry, you know?)so I'm sure that can't be wrong. Right? :)
i'm a stalker, but i wear my engagement ring first and then my band. I know this is "wrong" but my engagement ring is at least a size to big since I never tried it on beore it was purchased. My band fits perfect and holds on my engagement ring. i know i could take my ring in to be sized, but i just never did...so if you see me ever you'll know why mine are on wrong : )

Hey, I know I'm kinda late to weigh in on this, but I wear mine like you do. My mom always told me that you're supposed to "seal your marriage with a long engagement." How A-crat does that sound?
