One Bright Day...

...in the middle of the night
Two dead boys got up to fight.
Back to back they faced each other.
Drew their knives and shot each other.
A deaf policeman heard the noise
and came to kill the two dead boys.
If you don't believe this lie is true
Ask the blind man, he saw it too!

This is one of the many funny sayings, jokes, etc. that my Dad was always teaching me as a kid to keep my friends and I entertained. I am so glad that I will always have such fond and funny memories of him. For those of you who don't know, Dad passed away unexpectedly last Thursday, January 17 at home. We do not know the cause of death but think he suffered a heart attack. He was a great man and a great dad, and we will miss him every single day that passes by. He only got meet his new grand baby once at the hospital when she was born. Mom, Ben, Sipsey, and I were all traveling to Dothan that Thursday afternoon for Dad to get to see her again. I don't know what else to say, so I am including the links to his obituary for those who are interested.

When I first started reading thatsong, poem whatever it is, I was thinking hhhmmmmmm i have heard/know this, how is that?? But then you answered my question. Of course, from your Dad. One of many funny memories I have of your Dad is riding by Adventure Land and him blowing the air horn:) oh and him calling me "little lost lake girl." AND him letting us drive the truck out in the country and Lindsay not knowing how (no offense Linds). Do you remember that??? Anyway, I could go on and on, but I just wanted to tell you again that I am so sorry about your Dad. He was a great, FUNNY man and he will be missed dearly. You and you family are in my thoughts and prayers.
Love you,
Lauren

Lauren, words fail me. I'm sure you do not even remember me because you were still a young girl when we moved away from Dothan. Your mom and dad were so precious to me. We had a close association through FUMC and before we even had our two girls (now 16, 18)we spent a good deal of time with them. I just absolutely loved being around your sweet daddy. His smile could always make my day so much better. I never will forget him walking through our newly-renovated little new-married house and commenting to your mom that there were no smudges and dings on the walls (you will soon know what I am talking about as little Sipsey gets older!). I just loved him. It's that simple. I have been so saddened to know he is gone from this earth and I just needed you to know that. I hurt for you going through such a paradox in your life -- having such inexplainable joy with your new status of motherhood and having such deep grief for your daddy. I have loved reading his words to you. You, your sister and your mom were his world and that was always evident. You will stay close to my heart.

I remember that saying too! I had forgotten where I learned it... who else could have taught me that other than your dad? Did you get my letter?

Lauren,

I just wanted to let you know I was sorry to hear about Mark and I have been thinking about and praying for you, Penny, and Mary Ashley. The many times Mark made me laugh have been playing in my head the last ten days and they have continued to bring a smile to my face. Olivia and I send our deepest sympathy and please let us know if there is anything we can do.

You know you have to teach Sipsey that little saying. Papa taught that to all of us and then we have passed it down to all of our children and their friends. It made me laugh and cry to read your blog and to look at the pictures! We tend to want to think of the what ifs, but we have to move on and remember all the good & funny things about your Dad! We are all going to miss him alot, but memories will keep us all together and keep him alive in our hearts! Just remember that you Dad has a front row seat to everything that Sipsey does! If you need anything, always know that I will do what I can for you and your Mom!

Lauren,
I am very sorry to hear about your father. I always enjoyed seeing him at the lake when we were in high school! Meredith and I will keep your family in our thoughts.

that story at the top sounds almost exactly like something my grandfather used to say. My fondest memory with your dad was when he invited me and my dad and nolan over to watch the NCAA Basketball tournament one time (cause he had all the games). I thought it was the coolest thing ever.
