Well I guess with the extreme temperatures we have been having lately, we can say that summer has officially started in the South! To get some relief from the heat, one of Ben's coworkers invited us to swim in his parents' pool on Saturday in a neighboring city. We really did not plan on staying long because the few times we have been in the pool with Sipsey, we had to hold her the entire time. She has apparently gained some confidence since then and swam unassisted in her Puddle Jumper the whole time! If you do not have one of these for your child, I strongly recommend them. I learned about them last year through blog friends (who are also in-real-life friends). Sipsey is pretty timid around the water (we have been swimming with her no more than 5 times) and she tends to go face first in the water in swimmies or float face up in a life jacket. This was the case last year anyway. Puddle Jumpers are US Coast Guard Approved Life Jackets, so they work in the boat too. The weight limit is 30-50 lbs but Sipsey doesn't quite weigh 30 lbs yet so I'm sure it is fine for other lightweights! She starts swimming lessons this afternoon. I can't wait to see how that goes!
She darted all over the pool that day and slept like a rock that night!

msn loves to swim by herself in her floaties. i can't believe sips is such a lightweight. her friend mary selwyn outweighs her by a good bit. (:
I am going to have to get one of those Puddle Jumper things. Luke is the same way as Sipsey...we have to hold him the entire time. He won't even sit in a little boat. I think it's something about the sensation of his feet and legs "hanging". He loves the pool as long as he can just play on the steps, but beyond that, forget it! We did a mother & baby swim class for 2 years and younger last summer. It was supposed to just help him get used to the water, but he was so scared the entire two weeks. We are skipping lessons this summer, and going to try working with him here at home to hopefully help him overcome some of that fear. Then maybe we can do lessons again next summer. I know how you feel though...it's miserable being in the pool when you're having to hold one the entire time!
so glad shes loving swimming! I think those puddle jumpers are the coolest things for kids.
Elle loved her puddle jumper at the lake..had to keep that thing on her 24/7 because she would just jump in! ha! Can't wait to hear how swimming lessons are going!
I'll look into a Puddle Jumper for Dagney! She loves the water. Even though she's only 13 months old, she weighs about 24 lbs, so she's almost ready for one! Glad Sipsey's having fun! :)
