Sipsey Lately

Sipsey is a really funny girl lately. Her imagination runs wild and I love to hear what she comes up with next. For example, she will often cradle her own arm or leg and say something like, “Shhhhhhhhhh my baby is sleeping!” Or even funnier, she will hold one finger and show it to me and say, “She bit her!” and point to the culprit finger. And then it’s my job to get on to the finger that bit. It’s really hysterical.

She still LOVES babies and baby dolls. Her crib (yes she is still in a crib – never tried to climb out once! She will get a big girl bed in Arkansas.) is filled with babies and books. She usually wakes up between 7:00 and 7:30 each day and will read to her babies until we get her out. Her babies don’t have real names; they go by Penney baby, Big baby, etc. Unless we go to our neighbor’s house, whose babies have names, then Sipsey will come home and for about a day, will call her babies names of the neighbor’s babies.

She also LOVES Dora. If you aren’t familiar with the show, Dora and her friends always go on a journey to find something and the Map shows them the way via certain landmarks. He always repeats the directions at least 3 times saying, for example, “Bridge, Playground, Stadium!” Ben mailed Sipsey a Dora book from Arkansas and she opened it and started ‘reading’ immediately. When it came to the page where the Map tells the way, Sipsey gathered from the pictures what the landmarks were and started reciting, “Forest, Bridge, Castle!” just like how the Map would have said it. Dora and her friends also come upon certain paths that should be taken and certain ones that shouldn’t, like ones with alligators down the path. Dora always asks the viewer, “Which path do we take?” While we are driving, Sipsey is always asking me, “Which path do we take now, Mommy?” She also runs her fingers along the grout lines in our bathroom and asks herself, “Which path do we take?” at each ‘intersection’ of grout line. That girl loves some Dora!

Sipsey also has an addiction to her loveys. She has several but her favorites are “rabbit lovey” and “baby mark’s lovey,” that she ‘borrowed’ from her cousin Mark. The undersides are silk and she rubs it to fall asleep while sucking her thumb each night. The thumb-sucking has not affected her teeth yet, so we will stop that at a later time. She only does it to fall asleep or if she’s sick, and her sleeping habits are so great, I’m in no hurry to disrupt that!

And in true, inquisitive 2 year old fashion, she asks “why?” about everything. I tell her the true answer, even if it’s way over her head to comprehend. Usually after a few "whys", she answers with a satisfied, “Oh!”

She loves playing games on my ipod touch. She loves the cupcake game where she can choose the liners, the batter, set the timer, bake the cupcakes, shake the cupcakes out of the pan, choose the icing, and the toppings. And finally she gets to 'eat' the cupcake! There is also an animal memory/matching game that she is surprisingly good at.

We were in Dothan for a wedding a few weekends ago and the spider lilies were in full bloom. I also got some cute pictures of Sipsey with her great-grandparents!
